Music is one of the best parts of life.
Sitting down to listen to some of your favorite tunes only to discover your high-quality headphones are malfunctioning can be frustrating.
If you are on a windows computer, there are several possible causes of your problem.
How to Fix Headphones on Windows
Learning to fix headphones on Windows is not as hard as it may seem. It is possible to fix this problem in most cases without any outside help.
People commonly leave some of their computer settings set on the wrong option. We will walk you through each step in as much detail as possible. That way, everyone can follow along regardless of their experience levels working with computers.

On the bottom left hand of your screen, you should see the Windows Start Tiles icon. Click on this to open up the Start menu. On the Start menu, you should see the settings of the words.
If you simply see a symbol that looks like a gear. Once you have located it, click on it to open up the Settings menu.
Review Your Sound Settings
The Settings menu of Windows gives you the options for all of its settings. Look at all of the options on your screen and find the one that says Sound and Devices.
Click on that to open up the sound settings menu. This is the menu you will use to control anything related to your computer’s audio or device connected to your computer.
Ensure You Are Not On Mute
If you right-click on the volume icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, you will pull up a context menu.
Most audio problems on the computer have a straightforward solution.
People do not realize they have put themselves on mute. If you mute the audio on your computer, even when the headphones are unplugged, they will still not sound coming out when you plug them in. I did that once with my Skullcandy headphones and then caught my error.
You can remedy this by readjusting the volume settings and taking yourself off of mute.
Check Devices and Look For Your Headphones
If you are not on mute but still have not found the source of your problem, we can look at the device manager on your computer. To do this, go back to the settings menu.
In the settings menu, click on the words device manager rather than sound settings. This will open up a new window to see all of the components connected to your computer.
Scroll down and look through all of these devices.
Set Headphones as the Default Audio Device
You should see your headphones listed on the device manager page. It may appear under audio or game controllers occasionally. Once you have found it right-click on it and press on the properties button.
This will open up the Settings for your headphones on your computer. Ensure that these headphones are set as your default audio device. If it is not already, You can make it your default audio device by clicking on the “Set Default“ link.
Uninstall and Reinstall Device Drivers
If your headphones are still not working, then your problem’s last possible cause is likely the device drivers. You should see a tab at the top of that page labeled “ drivers“ in the same properties menu from the previous stab.
Click on that tab, and you will see an option to install the device and drivers. Go ahead and install them. After they are uninstalled, reinstall them.
